For this week's blog post, I found various memes that would be categorized in the genre of making fun of the Islam religion.

The meme above shows the former president of the United States defending the Islam religion by expressing Muslim people are peaceful and they don't condone the violence and killings. But then there is another meme that depicts the religion as being violent by referencing a certain scripture in the Quran. This meme mocks the Islam religion and challenges the belief that Islam is a peaceful religion. From an outsider perspective, this affirms the belief that Islam is indeed a violent religion, especially since the Quran is a heavily referenced book. Again, this challenges the authority and legitimacy of the Quran.

This second meme confirms the assumption of the Logic of Disjuncture and disconnect that traditional authority is eroded by the internet. The way the media and internet portrays Muslims is very negative and threatening. By constantly enforcing the belief that Islam is violent and hateful, shows how disconnected everyone else is from the actual religion. The memes that portray Islam as a religion driven by hate and violence is so disconnected from the actual beliefs. By stating false accusations, this gives the impression that the person who is making the foul memes is a figure of authority for people AGAINST Islam. This authoritative figure gains popularity with their memes and has followers, so to speak, that want to see more memes bashing Islam. With constant circulation of memes that are so disconnected from the actual values of Islam creates a perpetuating fear of Muslims.
